Provincial Charity Appeal 2011-12
The Charity Children with Cancer & Leukaemia Advice & Support for Parents (CCLASP) is an Edinburgh based childrens charity, set up in 1994 to help support children and groups of families, to express and share the feelings, anxieties and the horror of having a child with a life threatening illness. This charity is 15 years old, and has its premises at 7 North Sands in Edinburgh. It helps support children up to the age of 19 years. It also supports parents. It covers all of Scotland, which includes Mid, Eest and West Lothian, as wel as Edinburgh, this therefore satisfies all the geographical areas which our province encompasses. Its founder and MD is Mrs Valarie Simpson, a woman we found to be passionate and dedicated to this cause. Working Party To help monitor and coordinate fundraisers which may occur in different lodges and to help where ever we can, members of the working party have had lodges assigned to them, J. Fleming is the contact for Thorntree 1038 Please liaise with the above Brethren when planning your event/date
Proposed Events
Race Night
Race Night, this will be on
Saturday the 25th February 2012 at Lodge Liberton 1201, and will start
at 20:00. The capacity for this event will be 140. Entry fee will be 2 pounds per
person. Betting slips will be priced at 50p each. A small buffet or pies will
also be provided.
Six sheets will be sent out to each lodge. If they wish more, then that will
be a bonus. There will be 8 names on each sheet with 8 horses per race at
2 pounds each. Anyone who wishes to sponsor a table for this event would be
most welcome. All six sheets will hopefully be returned, with a raffle prize
accompanying each sheet. There may also be an auction race on the
night as well.
St. Patricks Night
Our fourth fund raising event will be a St Patricks Night. This will
be on Saturday the 17th March 2012, at Lodge Dalkeith Kilwinning No10.
Time 19:30 until Midnight.
On this evening there will be several fund raising events. A band has still
to be organised, and ticket prices will be dependant on the cost of the
band etc. The capacity for this event will be 120. Bro Jock Baird will be
providing the catering for this event. It is also hoped that there will be a
promotion on this night as well, in addition, it is hoped that there will be
many fun activities as well. Irish dress is encouraged a must. More detail
to follow soon.
Grand Family Barn Dance
Grand Family Barn Dance. This
will be in June 2012. Much of the detail for this event is still being worked
on, but one major part of the evening will be the Grand Raffle, our last
fund raising event, where all the donated raffle prizes over the 15 month
fund raising period will be raffled.
It is worth remembering that there are many ways that funds can be
raised for these children and their parents/carers. If any lodge or anyone
or any group wishes to do contribute in any way towards the total fund
raising it would be greatly appreciated. Yardstick Perhaps placed at a lodge`s attendance book or on the Bar. If anyone wishes, they can place a 1 pound coin into the slot. When it is full, then these can be collected and go towards the fundraising total. These could also be used on several occasions if you so wish. These yard sticks possess a plate depicting each lodge number. Each lodge will be able to keep their yard stich after the fund raising ends. It is also pleasing to bear in mind that, "Charity is one of the yard sticks or measures of a masons heart".
Pot of Gold
This refers to any donations of any unwanted broken jewellary the brethren or their wives may have themselves or from others. At the end of the fund raising period, the jewellery will be valued and sold. The money from which will go into the charity fund. This is a simple and easy way to raise charity money. One broken bracelet may raise very little but multiplied across the Province could be worth a lot. Let`s get looking in all those drawers! | |
